The nerd. What is it?? Who is it?? What does it do?? Are you a nerd?? to answer these questions one must go back to the beginning of the nerd, back to a time of wonder and amazment.....The 50s. Yes the time where the teen came into the spotlight. the nerd was first introduced. but im getting ahead of myself first lets look at the definition of the nerd.

the nerd is usually dorky, he enjoys reading, collecting miniatures or cards, and has a vast knowledge of technology. A nerd enjoys learning, and knows many things. the nerd has many natrual enemies. including the famous jock. the nerd usually gathers in small to medium groups to discuss movies, video games, and books. the nerd is usually small though many are large. the nerd can be male or female. black or white(mostly white). the nerd has made a large come back from the dark ages of the 50s and 60s to become movie makers, video game designers, millonaires, scientist, and more. but before i get off subject let us get to the origins of the nerd.

The 50s, yes the 50s. A wonderful time, a peacful time, a time of enlightenment. as the teen first emerged from the darkness of schools so did the nerd. scientist are unsure where the nerd came from, but most scientist theorize that the nerd came with the arrival of cheap Sci-fi movies. as the sci-fi movies took the local drive ins and theaters by storm. the nerd was populating local schools. by the end of the 50s almost every school in america had atleast one nerd in it. although the nerd was on the rise, this was described as a dark time for the nerd. due to the fact that sports held american schools in a strong grip. since the nerd is a weak creature he was easy prey for the jock. yes many a nerd fell to wedgies, nookies, wet willys and other horrible tortures. and as the 50s turned into the 60s the nerd was considered an outcast.

As the 60s came too the nerd faded out of the decade. though the nerd was still around it had been beated down by the jock and the popluar. but salvation was coming to the nerd all he had to do was wait.
